Active in the process industry, HSL is one of the leading civil contractors serving the oil and petrochemical plants. The broad spectrum of construction services we perform in the plant engineering environment ranges from civil engineering to building construction works.

Civil Engineering

Backed with valuable technical plant expertise and top-notch safety standards, our civil engineering works span over myriad areas. These include large foundations for heavy plant equipment, pipeline works, deep excavations, pipe rack foundations and steel structures.

1. Large Foundation for Heavy Plant Equipments

Beneath every plant equipment lies a robust foundation. At HSL, we have pride ourselves in being one of the best foundation builders for the process industries. In process plants, huge structures such as furnaces, reactors and boilers are common and these units often require complex designs to ensure that the high temperatures are maintained without compromising the integrity of the structure. Understanding the complexity and unique requirements has aided us in developing a foundation building process that firmly incorporates safety and stability.

 2. Water Lines, Sewer Lines & GRE Pipes

In the placement of the water lines and sewer lines, multiple challenges are faced. Considerations include depth of trenches, proximity to existing structures, and underground services. Good planning is seen as an essential step in constructing the waterlines and sewer lines, so as to prevent any possibility of future leakages. Indeed, HSL prides itself as one of the best planners in the industry, and meticulous steps are constantly followed to avoid and mitigate the effects brought about by underground obstructions.

3. Deep Excavations

Deep excavation works are performed in the plant to construct neutralization pits, oil interceptors and water tanks. Knowing the hazardous nature of excavation, we provide extensive considerations to the types of shoring system during excavation. Additionally, our competent constructing team ensures that diligent measures and actions are constantly in place to mitigate the hazards and conditions during deep excavation works, especially in “live” plants.

4. Pipe Rack Foundations

Transportation of gas and liquids via pipelines is economical. Pipelines transporting the hazardous hydrocarbon gases and liquids are usually supported by pipe racks. Robust foundation works are vital to these racks and that’s where our expertise and experience comes in. With more than 15 years of experience in performing piling works across a variety of process plants, we are familiar with the hazards associated with working in “live” process plants, which make us a preferred choice by many multi-national process plant owners.

Building Construction

With clear understanding of the safety and quality expectations in the plant environment, we provide building construction services such as electrical sub-stations, temporary office facilities and warehouse construction.

1. Electrical Sub-Stations

An electrical sub-station is a subsidiary of an electrical generation system where voltage is transformed from a higher to lower range or reversed by means of transformers. Normally several high power pieces of electrical equipment are housed within each substation and as such, materials of appropriate type and thickness are required to ensure adequate resistance. Our experience with substations helps us to ensure that all the necessary safety precautions are in place, and building methods are adhered to.
