The initiation of this project is due to the need to make replacement of an existing set of electronic equipment underwater at the coast off the northern shore of Singapore.

The installation of equipment requires the establishment of foundation piling for the device to sit on. As the equipment are sensitive to metal objects, consideration for the construction of the permanent piles must be of non-metal materials. In this project, the level of precision required to install the equipment to its designated location is of outmost importance.

During the initial discussion with the client, it is decided that a temporary staging will be erected to serve as a guide for the installation of casing pipe pile so as to facilitate the airlifting of soil from seabed. To satisfy the requirement of a non-metallic foundation, UPVC Pile was proposed to be used as the foundation of the devices. To ensure that the equipment will be installed accurately to the designated location required by the client, experienced and qualified surveyors were deployed to set up pile position by means of GPS surveying system.

Finally, divers were deployed underwater to assist in the cutting and leveling the installed UPVC piles before the installation of electronic devices. Subsequently, cable was also laid from the seaward to shore by means of a work boat with the assistance from the divers.

Despite having the constraints of working within a short construction period and high level of precision required for the works, HSL completed the project safely and successfully. On top of that, HSL managed to complete the project one day ahead of the agreed scheduled date.
